Your space, explained.
Privacy
Your writing stays on your computer. Sideleaf has no accounts, analytics, or advertising.

Who this covers
This policy covers the Sideleaf desktop app and sideleaf.xyz, made by Kortexa AI (“we”). It explains the small amount of connection information involved in visiting the website, downloading the app, or checking for a release.
Your documents and local app data
The app reads and saves files you choose. It does not upload your writing or comments to us. Comments are stored beside the document in a .sideleaf.json companion file. Keep both files together when moving annotated documents.
The app also keeps update-check preferences and a local startup diagnostic log. The log contains startup timing, platform and webview details, and bounded error messages; it is replaced on the next launch and is not sent to us automatically. Your files and local app data remain under your control. A folder managed by a cloud-sync service follows that service’s settings.
Version checks and downloads
Sideleaf checks GitHub Releases at most once a day automatically, and when you choose Help → Check for Updates. These requests send no document content, account token, or installation identifier. GitHub receives ordinary connection information, including your IP address and the app’s generic “Sideleaf” user agent. The app stores the last check time, release version, and any dismissed version locally.
A new-version notice opens the release page when clicked. Dismissing it hides that version’s notice; it does not turn off later checks. There is no automatic installation or forced restart. You can write offline.
Downloads and source code are hosted on GitHub and follow GitHub’s privacy statement. The operating system supplies the app’s webview and may perform its own security, runtime-update, or diagnostic requests under your system settings.
Visiting this website
This website uses no analytics, advertising scripts, tracking cookies, third-party fonts, or signup forms. Our web server keeps ordinary access and error logs, which can include IP address, requested page, timestamp, browser user agent, and referring page. We use these logs to operate the site, diagnose errors, and protect it from abuse. They are normally rotated daily and retained for about two weeks, unless an incident or legal obligation requires longer retention.
If you contact us
When you email us or open a GitHub issue, we receive the information you choose to send and use it to respond and maintain the product. GitHub issues are public, so please avoid posting private documents or credentials. We retain support correspondence as needed to address the request and keep useful product records.
Sharing and your choices
We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising. Connection information is processed by the services involved in delivering the site or GitHub downloads. We may disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect the security of the service.
You can manage or remove your local files and app data yourself. To ask about information you have sent us, or request access, correction, or deletion where applicable, email legal@kortexa.ai. We may need to verify a request, and some records may need to be kept for legal reasons. This site does not track you across other websites, regardless of your browser’s Do Not Track setting.
Changes and contact
We will update this page if these practices change and revise the date above. Questions about Sideleaf privacy are welcome at legal@kortexa.ai.
